Buying or selling online? Wise up!
Online marketplaces can be a playground for internet scammers who may never ship goods you buy, or claim they never received goods you sold – both of which will leave you out of pocket.
So how do you prevent yourself from being a victim of this sort of scam?
First, only buy using reputable online marketplaces, and stick to sellers with a proven track record. The better their ratings, the more chance they’re legit. Always read the description of the goods carefully, and be wary if the price seems unusually low.
Stick to the platform’s messaging and payment services, too. If a seller is pressuring you to pay through wire transfer, for example, there’s a big chance they’re trying to scam you – and the selling platform can’t help if things go wrong.
Finally, keep a record of all your shipping information: tracking numbers, delivery confirmations and proof of shipment. Insist on signing for goods on receipt so you have proof of delivery.
Of course, things sometimes go wrong even with completely reputable sellers. And If they do, always use your selling platform’s dispute resolution service and refund mechanism to deal with refunds rather than bank transfers through Wero.
